we're friends now, so you can call me sam.
I'm a Midwest-based website designer with a huge passion for plants, peppermint tea, and launching websites for business owners who want the freedom to to work from anywhere. I love exploring National Parks with my babe, borrowing armfuls of books from the local library, and watching reruns of Parks & Rec on my days off, but I spend most of my time building websites for adventurous photographers and freelancers.
I've been designing websites since 2009, but I got serious about Squarespace in 2016. Once I saw the power a single websites has showcase fresh projects, build real connections, and bring in new business, I was hooked. No matter what you love, I can't wait to design a website that works for you. Click here to see the start-to-finish process, exactly what's included in each package, and how we can get started!
a little bit about me ⤸
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN DESIGNING WEBSITES?
I've been obsessed with customizing websites ever since I created my first Wordpress blog in 2009... but I got serious about Squarespace in 2016. I've been designing websites with the Heipro Digital team since September 2018 and launched this service for y-o-u in the spring of 2019. To learn more about why I love Squarespace, click here :)
IF YOU DIDN'T HAVE THIS JOB, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING?
I got a degree in English Education and spent some time teaching high school students (in the US and New Zealand) before falling in love with computer science. I spent about a year teaching computer science and working with middle school students to develop code and build their own websites... which I would probbaly still be doing if this business hadn't taken off!
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN FULL-TIME?
I launched my online business in May of 2018, right as the school year was ending. I picked up a couple of hours a week in a flower garden (true story) while things were taking off, and was full-time by August 2018. I still can't believe everything grew so quickly, and am so incredibly thankful for each of you for rooting for me, too.
WHERE DO YOU CALL HOME?
Indiana! Okay, so it's not that exciting... but I grew up right by the Indiana Dunes National Park, which is a pretty sweet little slice of the Midwest. I'm currently living closer to Indianapolis while my boyfriend finishes his Master's degree.
WHAT DOES A TYPICAL WORK DAY LOOK LIKE FOR YOU?
It varies throughout the week, but I typically work from home on days when I have client calls, and from the university library or a coffeeshop when I don't. I'm not a morning person, so I rarely put pressure on myself to get started before I've really taken some time to wake up, brew some peppermint tea, and fill out my morning journal. I give myself about 30 minutes to work on my own business tasks to get warmed up, then spend another 30 minutes checking and responding to emails. I like to batch my work as much as possible, so I try to work on one task at a time, for about 90 minutes, before switching to another task. Most of my day is spent designing websites, scheduling Pinterest content, and doing keyword reasearch for SEO. I really like what I do, so I usually work until late into the night because I have a hard time slowing down once I get started. But I'm working on it. :)
WHAT DO YOU LISTEN TO WHILE YOU WORK?
I like listening to audiobooks and podcasts while designing, and music while writing my own content or typing responses to emails... and sometimes I work in complete silence for hours, headphones in and everything, before I realize I never even hit "play."
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED?
I had been obsessed with website design and online marketing for years before I ever realized it could turn into a full-time job. I'd accidentally spent years teaching myself a lot of the behind-the-scenes elements of running an online business, then fell head-over-heals for computer science and custom coding projects while I was teaching at a middle school. I initially started my own business at Joelle's suggestion, thinking I could find some clients over the summer and keep it part-time once school started again in the fall... then it exploded and I've never looked back.
HOW DID YOU AND JOELLE MEET?
I love answering this question! My boyfriend and her husband were friends who introduced us! We initially met while the four of us were working at the same summer camp (in 2015, can you believe??) and when we found out we'd both be graduating from our colleges a semester early, we decided to rent an apartment together! During that year, I got to see Joelle go full-time with her photography, and she got to see me flourish after finding new passions (that I would eventually go full-time with, too!)
I can’t wait to start rooting for you!
